Workday Prayers: God is Above All

January 20, 2022 • Life for Leaders

Scripture Reading: Psalm 83:18 (NRSV)

Let them know that you alone,
+++whose name is the LORD,
+++are the Most High over all the earth.

Focus

Psalm 83 is a cry to God for justice and protection as gentile nations are threatening to wipe out Israel. The psalm writer acknowledges and counts on God’s sovereignty over all nations. Though our situations are different from that of the Israelites, it’s always good to remember that God is Lord over all of heaven and earth, including the places where we work and live.

Prayer

Gracious God, sometimes when I get wrapped up in my work it can feel as if work is everything. I can be so focused on what my company wants or what my boss expects that I lose sight of the greater truth.

And what is that truth? You are Most High above all the earth. You are King of kings and Lord of lords. You created all things and, in the end, all things will be redeemed and reconciled in you.

Thus, you are Lord over my work. The company and its leaders may not recognize this. But everything exists under your sovereignty. So, even as I seek what’s good for the company, and even as I follow the leadership of my boss, I see beyond what’s obvious to the greater reality of your rule and glory.

As I work today, may I offer all that I am and all that I do to you. May you be glorified in and through me today. Amen.

Ponder Throughout the Day

God is above all things, including the things associated with your work.
