Workday Prayers: Glorify God as You Work

April 8, 2021 • Life for Leaders

Scripture – Psalm 57:5 (NRSV)

Be exalted, O God, above the heavens.
+++Let your glory be over all the earth.

Focus

As you do your work with integrity and justice, God is glorified. The God who is exalted above the heavens can also be lifted up in your daily work.

Prayer

Gracious God, you are indeed exalted above the heavens. You are more brilliant than the sun, more expansive than the sky filled with stars. Your praise echoes throughout the universe as all creation honors you. Your glory exceeds anything we can see with our eyes or imagine with our minds.

Yet, Lord, I ask that you be exalted and glorified in my life, including my daily work. May what I do today be an act of worship as I offer all that I am to you. May my actions reflect your love and justice. May my truthful words honor you. May my heart of love make you glad.

As your glory fills the earth, may it also be seen in my work; in what I do, how I do it, and for whom I do it. As I offer my work to you in worship, be glorified today. Amen.

Ponder Throughout the Day

Let all you do at work give glory to God.

For Further Reflection

You may wish to read all of Psalm 57.

For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body (1 Corinthians 6:20).

This is one of two places in Psalms where the same phrase is used. It is also a song in Scripture in Song and also in The Family of God Hymnal I believe. I love scripture in song because what better way to memorize and use scripture than to set it to music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FwvEBULwIQ Be Exalted Oh God Above the Heavens. Blessings

Thanks, Margie, for this comment. You know, I heard that very song in my head when I read this verse. Thanks for the link!
