An Advent Prayer of Confident Hope

December 20, 2019 • Life for Leaders

Out of the depths I cry to you, LORD;
+++Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
+++to my cry for mercy.
If you, LORD, kept a record of sins,
+++Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness,
+++so that we can, with reverence, serve you.
I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits,
+++and in his word I put my hope.
I wait for the Lord
+++more than watchmen wait for the morning,
+++more than watchmen wait for the morning.
Israel, put your hope in the LORD,
+++for with the LORD is unfailing love
+++and with him is full redemption.
He himself will redeem Israel
+++from all their sins.

Psalm 130:1-8 (NIV)

Prayer:

I wait for you, Lord,
For your mercy, your forgiveness, your love.

A hand reaching into a distant sunlightI wait for you, Lord,
Not with wishful thinking,
But with confident hope,
Because I have known your redemption,
I have tasted the sweetness of your grace.

I wait for you, Lord,
Because I trust your word.
You are ever faithful,
Ever reliable.

I wait for you, Lord,
With eagerness,
Like the night guard looking for the sunrise.
I know that your full redemption will come.
Yes, come Lord Jesus, come!

Ponder Throughout the Day:

Your hope in God is not wishful thinking but wise confidence because God’s love never fails.
