Out of the depths I cry to you, LORD;
Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
to my cry for mercy.
If you, LORD, kept a record of sins,
Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness,
so that we can, with reverence, serve you.
I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.
Israel, put your hope in the LORD,
for with the LORD is unfailing love
and with him is full redemption.
He himself will redeem Israel
from all their sins.

Prayer:
I wait for you, Lord,
For your mercy, your forgiveness, your love.
I wait for you, Lord,
Not with wishful thinking,
But with confident hope,
Because I have known your redemption,
I have tasted the sweetness of your grace.
I wait for you, Lord,
Because I trust your word.
You are ever faithful,
Ever reliable.
I wait for you, Lord,
With eagerness,
Like the night guard looking for the sunrise.
I know that your full redemption will come.
Yes, come Lord Jesus, come!

Advent Reflection: Waiting for Forgiveness in Psalm 130
Dr. Mark D. Roberts is a Senior Strategist for Fuller’s Max De Pree Center for Leadership, where he focuses on the spiritual development and thriving of leaders. He is the principal writer of the daily devotional, Life for Leaders, and the founder of the De Pree Center’s Flourishing in the Third Third of Life Initiative.
